Fold Like a Pro! Your Questions Answered Here! See who has seen us!

Our objective is to get as many pocket flags as we can into the pockets of our military personnel on the front lines. We want them to know that we care and that we keep them in our hearts and our prayers.  Finished flags are not for sale to anyone for any purpose.  These flags are not yet available to give to veterans, active military personnel stationed in the United States or other deserving groups.  Our resources are limited and we do not sell flags to fold for any other purpose except to provide them to our front line troops.

We encourage you to contribute to our project by donating funds or by folding and packaging flags to send to troops on the front lines or deploying troops only. Contributions go to purchase more flags to send to more front line troops. This is a grassroots effort by a nonprofit organization entirely funded by donations. We need your contribution to keep the Project going and to provide flags to all the front line troops.

POCKET FLAG PROJECT
P.O. BOX 740847

Orders for flags to fold are handled through this P.O. Box.  Send your payment (Check or Money Order payable to Pocket Flag Project), shipping address, e-mail address, and the number of flags you want in boxes of 300.  We are not able to accept credit cards.   If 300 flags seems too many for your group to fold, check with other groups in your area to find someone to split the order with you.  This has been very effective.  We are not able to split boxes here.

Our flags are $90 for 300 precut flags including shipping to you. These flags are pulled from the manufacturing line before hemming.  There is no sewing or trimming required.  The fabric is a poly cotton blend that does not fray unless it is handled a lot and refolded several times. Flags are made in the USA.

This website is THE RESOURCE for information you need to assist with the Project and to see how it grows. It will be the place where anyone wanting information about the process should come for all the information they need. Refer other possible volunteer groups to this website for the latest information and so that they get all their questions answered. It is much easier than you trying to tell them all of this and possibly missing something important.

IN THE BEGINNING----

The Pocket Flag Project was conceived in October 2001, after visiting with fellow Boy Scout leaders who are veterans who served in Vietnam and the Gulf War. Both of them carried small, folded flags in their left shirt pockets. These men related how important those flags were, and are to them.

Working with Cub Scouts (who were 9 and 10 years old at the time) helping to develop pride for our country's flag, and patriotism -- like we have not witnessed in recent years -- the idea of having them provide flags for some of our local members of the military reserves to carry in their pockets when they were activated, came to mind. These boys folded and packaged 100 flags and when they presented them to Naval Reserve representatives, the scouts told the reporter attending that they were going to "all the soldiers in the war". The scouts could not be convinced otherwise and the Project has grown into an international project from there.

Along with learning about citizenship and the U.S. flag, volunteers fold and package flags. Included in each package is a card which says:

"A flag for your pocket so you can always carry a little piece of home. We are praying for you and we are proud of you. Thank you for defending our country and our freedom."

Each card includes "Presented by Pocket Flag Project" and the website address. There is room on each card for volunteer groups to put their return address so any thank you notes can come to them or through the web address.

A template is available to download from this website to help you make your own cards easily and inexpensively and conforming to the guidelines of this project.

As of December 2003, there were groups in all 50 states committed to this project. Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops in Germany , Japan and Cuba who are dependents of US Military stationed in those countries, are also committed to folding flags for troops serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and the War on Iraq .  As of April, 2013, fabric or precut flags were distributed to groups to make over 2 million flags. We have precut flags available for volunteers. They are $90 for 300 flags including shipping to you.

Look for more information on this site as it is expanded and updated. It will be THE RESOURCE of information you need to assist with the Project and to see how it grows. We have received many requests to use these flags for table favors for military or patriotic dinners; for fund raisers; to give to veterans and active military not serving on the front lines; for firemen and policemen; for reservists; for parades and to hand out to the public at various events. None of these are approved uses for the Pocket Flag Project flags.

Please send or e-mail the APO or FPO addresses (and e-mail address if available) for any military personnel serving on the front lines or in support areas of the War in Iraq . We will send flags to their entire unit. We do not send just one flag to an individual, but provide flags for entire units and ships, when we have the proper contact information.

You are invited to send your folded flags to people/units from your local community. Check with nearby bases, reserve units and your family, friends, co-workers, church members, etc. to find units who have not yet received Pocket Flags. We do not always have enough requests here to send an address to you. When you send folded flags to a unit, please send the contact information for the unit to info@PocketFlagProject.com for our records.

If you choose to use fabric from another source please notify us how many you are sending so that we can keep track of the scope of this Project. We ask that you use flags of a comparable size and quality to those we supply. Before sending flags to anyone, check with us to see if that unit has already received flags. We are experiencing some duplication because volunteer groups are not always checking with us first.

WHEN YOU PARTICIPATE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO FOLD AND PACKAGE FLAGS TO SEND TO TROOPS ON THE FRONT LINES AND TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES ESTABLISHED BY THE POCKET FLAG PROJECT AND POSTED ON THIS WEBSITE. If you get any local press coverage, please send a copy of any printed articles and videotape of any TV coverage to the P.O. Box above.

Any donations made to the Pocket Flag Project not sent to the above P.O. Box are not bona fide contributions to this Project. We have received reports that there are other people not associated with the Pocket Flag Project who have been soliciting contributions in the name of this project and those funds are not coming to this Project.
