ORDERING

Our flags are $70 for 300 precut flags including shipping to you. These flags are pulled from the manufacturing line before hemming so they must have the hem allowances trimmed off to make them the proper size before folding them. There is no sewing required. The fabric is a poly cotton blend that does not fray unless it is handled a lot and refolded several times

Orders for flags to fold are handled through our P.O. Box. Send your payment (Check or Money Order payable to Pocket Flag Project) to:

   POCKET FLAG PROJECT
   P.O. BOX 740847
   ARVADA, CO 80006
Please include your shipping address, e-mail address, and the number of flags you want in boxes of 300. We are not able to accept credit cards. If 300 flags seems too many for your group to fold, check with other groups in your area to find someone to split the order with you. This has been very effective. We are not able to split boxes here.

TRIMMING HEM ALLOWANCES FROM PRECUT FLAGS

The flags we ship are packaged in boxes of 300.  We are not able to divide them into smaller quantities.  They need to have the hem allowances trimmed off for them to be the proper size and have the proper proportions.

Use a rotary cutter, mat and see-thru ruler. Check with members or women who sew, quilt or do other crafts to see if they have these items. They are rather expensive if you are not going to use them otherwise. They are available at local fabric or craft stores.

Start by measuring the width of the red stripes in the middle of the flag.  You will be trimming the top and bottom stripes so they are the same width as the other stripes.

Stack 6 to 8 flags.  Carefully line up the stripes and fields of stars so you can cut the stack all at once.  Line up your see-thru ruler and cut along the edge.  It takes less than 2 hours to trim all 300 flags in this manner.

You can trim the ends to square them up.  The left side with the field of blue stars should be trimmed so the top left star is the same distance from the left edge as from the top of the flag.

WHERE DO WE GET THE ENCLOSURE CARDS?

Download the file from this website.  If you have any problems with downloading it from here, e-mail info@PocketFlagProject.com and request the template for enclosure cards.

The template is in MSWord format. It is designed so any person with a home computer and printer can make their own cards at minimum cost and easily. You can put your group's return address in the blank space and use it as your "master" to print out on your own printer or print one copy and take it to a "Copy Shop" to be printed for you.  Please keep “Pocket Flag Project” and the web address on your cards.

It will take 25 sheets of these to make 300 cards.  You can print on card stock or heavy paper and cut them apart with a paper cutter or scissors.  There is a waste margin on the right and bottom edges of the page so that the finished cards will be the right size to fit easily into 3x3 bags.

If volunteers want to sign the back of the cards or write a brief message of thanks or prayer on them, they are welcome to do so.  Sometimes the soldier who receives the flag will write to the person who signed it, sending their letter to the group address on the front for delivery.  Other times, if they write a “Thank you” letter, they will just send it to the group address.

We encourage you to use caution with children folding flags and have them just put their first name and last initial so that the group leader can identify who would receive the response.  There have been no problems in this area but it is just a child safety precaution.  No one needs to put their personal address on a card.  All responses would come to the group address on the front of the card.

WHERE DO WE GET THE RECLOSEABLE BAGS?

We purchase 3x3 zip lock type bags from Xpedx stores in bags of 100. Craft stores and WalMart have similar bags in different sizes but usually they do not have the proper size. They may also be found at jewelry or bead supply stores or some office supply stores. The enclosure cards are designed to fit in 3x3 bags. This size is preferred to fit in the shirt pocket and to easily fit the properly folded size of the flag.

If you cannot find them in your area contact this Sea Scout Ship crew who has offered to provide bags shipped to you at a reasonable cost. Contact them at skipper@seascoutship41.org to order through them or for 300 3x3 inch bags, send $10 payable to:
     Sea Scout Ship 41
     29560 Lake Road
     Bay Village, Ohio 44140
Additional bags are $3 per 100 .  They are doing this as a service to the Pocket Flag Project.

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO COMPLETE OUR FLAGS?

We ask that you complete all the flags within 4 to 6 weeks of receiving the flags. Having a deadline makes it easier for you and us. Some groups have not followed this and found unfinished flags in a box or the back of someone's closet weeks or months after they were to be done. It is impossible to know how many flags have been done in this case.

Remember, you are keeping our troops waiting and some may not get this "little piece of home" if you don't complete and ship every flag. Just one or two flags from each group not finished or kept by a volunteer adds up to thousands not received by our troops.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE FINISHED FLAGS?

When you are nearly done, contact us by e-mail to see where to send them. We have ongoing lists of requests for flags for various military units. Or if you are near a military base and want to donate them to a local unit being deployed, you can make contact there and notify us of your intent and contact person. This helps us to track where the flags are going, avoid duplications and insure that the flags are going to fulfill the mission of this project.

PLEASE CONTACT US BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR FINISHED FLAGS. WE ARE FINDING DUPLICATIONS BECAUSE GROUPS SEND THEIR FLAGS OUT WITHOUT FIRST CHECKING HERE OR DID NOT TELL US WHERE THEY WERE SENT.

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION AT THIS WEBSITE FOR WHERE THESE FLAGS MAY BE USED. WE ARE GETTING NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BECAUSE OF GROUPS NOT FOLLOWING THE MISSION OF THIS PROJECT. THOSE GROUPS NOT FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES AND THE MISSION IS HAVING A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON ALL OF US.

ALL OF THESE FLAGS MUST GO TO FRONT LINE OR DEPLOYING TROOPS.
